Door Trim

Mornin!

I didn't quite finish my project this week. :-(  But I got started! It's not so exciting, but it's been waiting for a long time to get done--- the trim around the doors in the back room.

You can see the back doors here:

They were both surrounded by red tape for over a year! Ugly!

So, finally I went and bought the trim to go around them. Last week I stopped at the Restore and got a few pieces of wood to finish the inside part of the door. We re-used our old back door for the side and got a new door for the back. Unfortunately, we had doors for a 2x4 wall instead of 2x6 so I had some improvising to do. Two pieces from Restore fit for the side door. They just had to be scribed by me and ripped by HH. Then, voila, that was done (last week).  But, I couldn't figure out what to put on the back door as it needed a thinner board. I decided to use some cedar planking we took down from the front of the house when we added on our new front addition. That also got scribed and ripped. Then the outside moulding went up easily around both doors. I've caulked around the back door and am waiting for the side door to get a bit more permanently installed before I do the caulking there!

Now I've got a new primer- Zinsser B-I-N. Similar to this Zinsser BIN Primer Sealer, but I don't think mine is white. It's shellac based, which I've never used before. I used Zinsser Bullseye 123 for the window ledges, but the pine knots are showing through the primer.  The shellac is supposed to prevent that and I thought it would be good for the cedar I used around the back door.  I haven't used it yet because I was afraid it would be too smelly. Although, on the can it says "Best Odour Sealer"!  I think I'll try it out today and see how it goes. You can recoat after 45 min so I may be able to paint the back trim today!

Have a good weekend! :-)
