What We did on the Weekend

Hello!
I finally got another project on the go.  It's the front room ceiling!

Back in April, we got this nailer to help with the ceiling.

Here we'd tested out one board.
K could do the nailer, but it was too hard for me to use to get the nails into the studs.  So, I hammered nails into the ceiling to get the job done. It took two days (working a few hours each day.) And boy are my arms tired!
Here's looking from the front door, toward the (almost) finished locker.

Here's how it used to look with the drywalled, messily mudded, primed ceiling.

The boards came from the kids' room that is now C's room. That room
 had the natural boards.
(Sorry couldn't find a pic-will have to search the Archives)

But we also had some boards from the living room ceiling.  That ceiling was painted paneling with the beaded boards put up to hide the seams.  Here's an old picture with 1/2 the ceiling torn down already.

Luckily, we had just enough boards to use up for the front room ceiling.  I think we have just one 6 ft. board and about four 4 ft. boards leftover!  I love it when I can use up stuff!

Here's looking towards the hallway.

Standing at hallway door, looking toward the front door.

Here's how it looked before.

And over  by the window.  I even got the angled part of the ceiling done!
Now I have to rip 4 boards to finish it up.  Ripping is one of my least favorite things to do, but with our cordless Ryobi 18v saw, it's much easier than trying to use the big heavy Skil Saw.

We're going to leave the ceiling as-is for a while.  I may decide to white wash it later to brighten it up, or I may want to go ahead and paint it all.  But that's a project for another day!

Also, this weekend, N got to go flying with COPA for Kids again.
Here are some pics he took from the plane.

Here's N with the Pilot.

It's the first day of Summer Vacay!  It's rainy today.  No plans....

Have a great week! :-)

Gardens/Yard

Hi!

The projects have been pretty nonexistent around here lately, but the gardens (and grass) are doing their thing and growing like crazy.

Here are some pics from around the yard.

Here's the left side garden.

Here is is June 2.

This garden is pretty, but usually the car parks here and blocks it.

Notice I (kinda) covered the garbage cans with the piece of cedar fencing that used to cover the Canoe-zzi.
It was temporarily beside the playhouse back in May.

K planted pumpkins in the left side yard.

On a side note, when I was taking pictures, I discovered the cats had captured a cute little fat mouse.

Plus there were 4 tiny dead voles on the patio!  Oh, the joys of country living! ;-) (At least they are good hunters, though, and we don't have mice/voles living in our house!)

Have a great weekend! :-)

Grade Six Graduation

Hi!

N had his Grade 6 Graduation last night.
It was a nice ceremony to mark the end of his elementary school years.

Here's the whole Grade 6 group.  N's class had 24 kids and there was another split class (Grades 5 & 6) with 9 Grade Sixers.

Here's N getting cake from his teacher at the reception.

N and his two best friends (all wearing green shirts- not planned! ;-)) with the tallest kid in class behind them.

N and me at home with his plaque.

N, K and me.

We had dinner here with the in-laws after and we watched a slide show of N's birthdays.  (We started this "tradition" last year, but forgot to do it on the 24th, so we did it yesterday, the 25th)  We also watched some old videos from when the kids were little- They were so cute then!

Today is the last day of school and the last day (for a couple years) that the kids will be catching the bus together!

Yay, summer is here! :-)
