Tasty Thursday

Hi!

Here's what we ate last week.
  • Thursday- Creamy Chicken Curry and Crispy Chickpeas plus chicken fingers, broccoli and tortillas.  K & I liked the curry, but the kids just thought it was ok.
  • Fri- Frozen Pizza, Garlic Bread from Sub Buns, Caesar Salad
  • Sat-   Forgot what we ate today, but we had mashed potatoes with wasabi for adults and plain potatoes for kids with whatever it was! ;-) Update- we had a baked frozen trout that was caught by a friend of my FIL.  It had the head on it and N wasn't too impressed!
  • Sun- Jerk Chicken, Carrots & Turnips, Red Beans & Rice from mix (brought up by parents)
  • Mon- K's Birthday!- Pretzel Buns (with 1/2 c. whole wheat flour), Two-ingredient Burgers (Chickpeas for me), Oven Baked Potatoes (from leftovers), Birthday Cake- white cake with mint icing
  • Tues-Haystacks for kids, Burritos for Adults
  • Wed- Frozen Tuna Noodle Casserole, Krispy Kale, Sweet Potato Fries
Halloween is tomorrow! :-)

K's Birthday

 Hi!

Yesterday was K's birthday!  We celebrated by having dinner at home.

The cake was supposed to be red, but we ran out of food coloring!  It's a white cake with mint icing and mints on top.

Here we are enjoying dinner.

Here's what we ate.

Here's a picture of a picture of a picture....

Here's C's Selfie with K's present (a bike seat cover) on her head like a beret.
All pics were taken by C who is quite the photographer with her new camera!
Have a great week! :-)

Driveway Gravel

Hi!

Our projects have pretty much come to a standstill.  We haven't been doing much...

But we did get some gravel for our driveway! Here's K loading it into the wheelbarrow to spread around.

Here's the driveway in September.

And here's how it looked in Oct, 2013 when we cleared the sod.

Here's how the side part looks now with some little piles of gravel waiting to be spread.

Here it is in September.

And way back in May.

Now we have rain for the next 3 days so the progress has stalled....

We also got our septic tank pumped!

Have a great weekend! :-)

Tasty Thursday

Hi!

Another week has gone by!  Here's what we ate last week.
  • Thurs-Canned Maple Beans and Toast (Funny meal to have on shopping day, but N was gone and I just didn't feel like cooking.)
  • Fri- Leftovers
  • Sat- Anchovy Pizza made with Home-made dough - my best yet, although it could've cooked a bit more. I used 1 c. whole wheat flour and 2 cups + little extra for rolling of All Purpose Flour. Also, it says to use 1 T of salt and that's way too much. (All About Vegetarian Cooking pg 46).  We made one pizza and with the leftover dough we made Montreal Style Bagels.  We didn't do the topping, though.  They were very much like the pretzels we sometimes make except we boiled them in honey water instead of baking soda water.
  • Sun- Bone-In Chicken Noodle Soup ( It looks like you have to join the site to see the recipe, unless you stop loading page quickly before it goes to the sign-in page.) This was a good soup, although C didn't like it and N wasn't here.
  • Mon- Huevos Rancheros
  • Tues- Fish/ Porkchops, Roasted Carrots, Turnips, Parsnips (from FIL's garden)
  • Wed- Pasta with Spinach Cheese Tomatoe Sauce, Multigrain Crescent Rolls
Enjoy your day!

Fall Back Room

No, it's not time to set your clocks back, yet!  This is how the back room is arranged and decorated for fall.

Now (Fall)

Before (Summer)
You can see we moved the couch back over so the heater can work.

Now (Fall)
No, we still haven't made the speaker stands!

(Not So) Tasty Friday (Oct 10)

(Oops- Forgot to post this last week!)

Hi!

It seems fall is here!  all the leaves are turning and it's really pretty.

This is a long weekend.  The kids were off school yesterday and today for Teacher's Professional Development days, and they're off Monday for Canadian Thanksgiving.  Yesterday, we went to town, did some shopping and got to have lunch with K.  We ate at the "new" Pita Pit.  It's good, but it cost $35 for the 4 of us.  This is why we hardly eat out! It's so expensive.

Anyway, I lost my sheet of what we ate last week.  It was probably boring anyway... Here are my best guesses.
  • Thurs- Tim Horton's wraps for N & friends after Pokemon- C & K- chicken fingers and fries
  • Fri- Leftovers
  • Sat- Pizza from Dominoes
  • Sun- Frozen Gumbo & Rice, Biscuits
  • Mon- Easy Fall Beans with mini corn bread muffins
  • Tues- Chicken Tinga Soft Tacos from El Paso (Spicy, but good)
  • Wed- K cooks pasta with sauce
In other news, our cat Paris caught a mouse last night!  Her first one.  She's going to be a good hunter!

Enjoy your long weekend!  Happy Thanksgiving in Canada and Happy Columbus Day in America!
:-)

Tasty Thursday (a day late) (Oct 17)

(Oops- forgot to post last week's Tasty Thursday before this one!)

Mornin!

I've fallen into a meal-fixin' rut.  I don't know what to make.  I used to be so good and have healthy snacks and meals and now that the kids are older and have their own opinions and tastes it seems pointless to keep making lentils and kale and cauliflower when they don't like them.

Anyway, I keep trying (sometimes).  Here's what we ate last week.
  • Thurs- Cauliflower with cheese sauce, Samosas
  • Fri- Pizza with Pillsbury Pizza Dough (good dough) topped with Anchovies & Greens, Salad
  • Sat- Roast Jerk Chicken (plain for kids), Sweet Potatoes, Frozen Spinach
  • Sun- Dinner at In-laws- Turkey, Stuffing, Potatoes, Turnips, Cheesy Cauliflower, Sweet Potatoes
  • Mon- BlackEyed Pea Fritters in Pitas with lettuce and tomatoes and Tahini Sauce
  • Tues- Fish Tacos from Old El Paso Kit (good) with Cod, Purple Cabbage & Carrot Slaw with sauce mix.
  • Wed- Penne Pasta with Zuchinni & Basil (World Vegetarian Cookbook pg 482) Salad

New Kids' Rooms

Hi!

We had a busy weekend- re-arranging the kids' rooms. We switched beds so C got the bunk beds and N got the double bed.

Here are some pics of N's room. I think it looks more "grown up" now.
Here's the new view from the door to the left hand corner.

This is standing in the right hand corner looking at the wall to the right of the door.

This is the same wall before, but not looking so far into the corner.
(These before pics of both rooms are old- they've re-arranged at least once since then, but I didn't take pics!)

Here's standing in the left hand corner looking toward the door.

Here's sitting on the bed looking at the right hand corner.

This is before, standing at the door.

This is a before with a more straight on view.
The lockers have moved to where the dresser once was.

Now onto C's room.  Here's looking from the door into the left hand corner.
We re-did the rooms while the kids were gone to the in-laws. It wasn't a complete surprise because we'd been talking about it and had already moved the top part of the bunk bed out of N's room into the kitchen.  Anyway, after C got home she moved her posters around so they look better.

Here's that same corner way before. No posters or anything!

Here's the right hand corner with the new bunk beds!

Here's that corner before.

This is the corner opposite the door.

A before pic.

And finally looking back toward the door.

I put up some hooks for her towels behind the door.

Here's how it used to look.

It was really nice because we didn't have to buy anything new.  I got a few old things out that we hadn't used in a while- like the old bedskirt for N's single bed for the foot of his new bed

and his old fitted single sheet that had a rip in it to use for the side of the bed skirt.
Also, I'd bought a double duvet cover a few years ago for his bottom bunk that now fits his bed perfectly.   The old single quilt that he used for his top bunk is folded at the foot of his bed.

When the double bed was in C's room it was really high so a standard bed skirt didn't fit.  We used a white eyelet ruffled one and then 2 curtains over top to conceal the funny middle fabric.  Since the bunk bed isn't so high, I was able to use the white one on one side where the ladder is.

And I used just one curtain part for the foot of the bed.
It's still a bit messy.  I have to figure out how to make the white bedskirt go around the ladder.  I may have to cut it and do some sewing!
I used the other curtain for her closet.

N's bottom sheet is just a flat flannel sheet that fits a queen bed. We're using C's double sheets for her top bunk and I have an extra single set for her bottom bunk.  I'm only sorry that I gave away the single sheet set that went with her quilt.  I didn't think we'd need it again so I only kept one set that's kinda girly but not too much.  I figured it'd be more versatile.  Anyway, the kids both need new sheets anyway...

Have a great week! :-)

Courtyard Gable

Hi!
It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!
What a busy week! I've gone to the doctor's office twice this week -once for N on Tuesday and today for C.  I went to town twice for two days in a row- on Wednesday for the cats to see the vet and later to take C to dance; and on Thursday for grocery shopping and later to take N & friends to play Pokemon. Plus, Wednesday I started back volunteering at the Breakfast Program at the kids' school. I missed the first two weeks.

So, this isn't a very exciting post.  But it's a post that I'm so glad to be writing.

K finally finished shingling the courtyard gable!

Here's how it used to look.
Notice the old attic vent on the left is gone.

Most of the soffits and fascia are done.

There's just one little corner to finish but K ran out of supplies. :-(

But, when he picks up those supplies he'll get more for the front of the porch!

Also, he put up a shelf above the trash cans for the sailboat masts.
Not sure if it's going to stay there though.

Have a wonderful weekend!
:-)
