Little Trees

Hi!
Wow, three posts in one week!

Hope everybody had a thankful Thanksgiving yesterday!

There are a few blogs I read.  One is The Nesting Place.  Last week, there was a link to these mini trees.  I thought I could do that!

I have a few birch branches that I've been drying in the back breezeway since last year.  I was saving them for "a project".

I pulled out the miter saw from the front room closet and got to chopping.

Here are a few wood slices that I'm going to use for something else....

I kept chopping and chopping...

When I did the planter boxes for the front porch, I had some leftover clippings from the creeping cedar (?) in the back yard. So, I drilled a hole in one of the birch slices and stuck the greenery in!

Here are 2 more, made of some thicker slices with branches coming out of the sides.

Notice the one on the right has one big and one little sprig!

I hope they will last a while, but if they don't I can always go and cut some more greenery!

Have a fantastic day and wonderful weekend! :-)

Happy (American) Thanksgiving!

Hi!

Happy Thanksgiving to all those in the U.S.!!

Each year, since N was a baby, we've taken a family picture to "mark" the day and the start of the Christmas season.  And to have a picture to send with our Christmas cards!

Here are the last 12 pictures...

Our Back room is a living room now.

2014
There was a major snow storm, so we are outside in our snow gear!

(Some of the pics above are photos taken of the prints with my phone because I didn't feel like going thru all our photo files to find them.  I thought I'd saved them all in one "Thanksgiving" folder, but I couldn't find it....)

Hope everybody is having a great day!

Front Porch Planter Boxes

Hello!

November is a slow month for me, I guess.  Last year, most of my November Posts were the Tasty Thursdays (or Fridays), with only a few other posts.

There was no school on Friday for Parent-Teacher Interviews.  Both kids are doing well in school, which pleases me very much.  I'm so glad they're liking school, especially N who is at the Intermediate (Jr. High) School for the first time this year.

I don't decorate for Christmas until after American Thanksgiving, which is this Thursday.  However, one of the planter boxes on the front porch fell down, spilling all the contents.  Since it was a nice mild day, I decided to cut some evergreens for both boxes. I hope they will last thru the winter!

I still have the fall foliage baskets up.

I moved the table over, but it may not stay there.

Here's looking from the side stairs. Won't it be nice to have the porch ceiling done? ;-)

Here's a random pic of the front yard.

Here's looking more toward the back.  This is where the boats will stay for the winter.
Oh, see our neighbor's house?  There was a fire there!  It was a few weeks ago, caused by a burning candle.  Our neighbor, who is Ken's second cousin, was gone and came home with his daughter around 9:00pm to find the house burning!  We had no idea this was going on until we heard the fire truck sirens and we peeked out the window. The whole house needs to be gutted and won't be liveable til the spring!  Pretty scary!

Make sure you practice fire safety!

Have a great week! :-)

What's Goin' On

Oh, hi!
I didn't realize it'd been so long!

Not much home improvement stuff going on.  We've got the yard picked up for the winter and are enjoying the fall days.

Last week, there was no school on Friday, so the kids and I went to Charlottetown.  We were able to meet K for lunch.  We had Indian and everybody liked it, which was nice!  The kids are at ages where they like to do more "grown-up" things- instead of the play area at MacDonald's they want to get Bubble Tea at the mall- so it's quite fun to hang with them.

While Nate and I went to the Pawn Shop and Toys R Us to get a birthday present for his friend. C and K went on a bike ride thru the city (on the Rails to Trails Trail)   They stopped by the UPEI Library and the Vet College.  C has said she wants to be a vet.  Our cat Lilly had an annual appt. to see the vet last week, and C was able to go to that and see what goes on.

Wednesday was Remembrance Day (Veteran's Day in US).
C is in the school choir and they had a school performance on Tuesday, where they sang songs while the Grade Sixers put on a play.
(C is in front row, on right, looking to her left)

On Wednesday, the choir sang at the Legion during the Remembrance Day Ceremony.
(C's in the front row with white tights.)

Here's a video.
They were both touching performances.

Hope you have a great day and a wonderful weekend!  :-)

Saturday we finally got around to carving pumpkins.

Both kids found designs online and did their own carving.

N decided not to go trick-or-treating this year.  He stayed home to hand out candy, but we didn't get any trick-or-treaters!

C went trick-or-treating with her friend and another friend. Here is the loot!

Hope you have a great week! :-)
