Metal Christmas Ornaments

Hello!
It's the first day of Christmas Vacation for the kids!  We awoke to a winter wonderland.

C had her school Christmas Play, "Where Is Christmas" on Monday. It was quite a nice performance, with their new music teacher this year.
C is on the bottom row on the right.

I'll take a little break from posting for a few days, but wanted to get one more Christmas post in before the actual holiday!

I've made lots of wooden decorations for Christmas: tree holderswreathswooden trees and snowmen and a cross stitch ornament.

Well, I've finally branched out (haha) and made something new!

Metal decorations!

I've saved these frozen juice container lids for a long time.

It was a mild day, so I got out the spray paint,

And some stickers,
and came up with this.

These were my test ones.

I put a black coat on the bottom lid and then put the stickers on to spell NOEL.  After spray painting again with the shiny silver, I took the stickers off to reveal the word. The top lid just got stickers and silver paint so the word is a bit more subdued.

After seeing this, I decided the shiny silver looked too much like the original lid, so I switched over to a Hammered finish.

C helped think of Christmas-y words (along with K) and put the stickers on.

Here are all the stickers we pulled off.

And here are the cute ornaments!
After seeing the Hammered finish, I went back and re-did some in the shiny finish so there's a variety.

Here's another "set".

Here's one hanging on our tree.

Merry Christmas! :-)

Wood Disk Garland

Hi!

How was your weekend?  We had a good one.  We went to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Saturday, at the first matinee. I'd bought tickets the day before, but it wasn't busy at all! We were all pretty surprised, considering all the hype!  Everybody enjoyed the movie, though.

After seeing this picture (in a magazine- Sorry, I forgot which one...), I was inspired.
By the little tree, the front door color, the shingles (of course) and the garland!

So, with all my wood disks

I set out to make one.
I drilled one hole in each disk, tied a sting to it and then tied the sting to another longer string. (The string had been dyed with coffee because it was too white).  However, this looked a bit too busy to me.

So, I tried again, drilling two holes and threading the long string thru.
There, that's better!

Have a fantastic day! :-)

Christmas Tour

Hi!

Tuesday was a storm day for everyone!  We got a bit of snow Monday night, followed by freezing rain and ice pellets thru the day, then it changed back to snow in the evening.  We got about 20cm of snow (7 inches!).
There was an hour delay for schools on Wednesday. Luckily the weather was nice for the Hernewood Christmas Concert Wed. night where N played 4 songs on the trumpet with the Junior Band.  It was nice!

The other day, I shared our Christmas trees.
Now you can see the rest of decorations.

Starting at the front porch.
(Before the snow!  The right planter box got knocked over in the storm, but it's back up now!)

Walking inside the front room.

In the kitchen.

(Ha, those two pics above kinda look like one big pic!)

The back room.

We have a delicate ornament, that I hung by the side door.

Find last year's decorating here and 2013's here.

That's all for now.  Have a super day! :-)

Christmas Trees

Hi!

I have two Christmas trees to share today.

First, our chalkboard tree in the front room.  C googled "chalkboard christmas trees" and came up with this
from here.

Here she is hard at work on Nov 28.

We like the way it turned out!

Especially with the colored lights.

Second, and perhaps more important, is our live tree!
We had snow on Friday, Dec 3, so when we went out on Sunday, Dec 6, it was all white!

There was a tree behind the trailer, that was too close to another, so N cut off the top.

After a bit of consideration, we decided it wasn't quite right.

So, off to the woods we went!

K has found a good one!

He and C carry it home.

We let it dry in the breezeway a couple days and then brought it in to sit on our metal trunk.

The decorations are out and ready to be put on the tree.

Our cat Lilly was inside and checking it out.

The kids decorated after dark.

Here it is all finished!

Have an awesome day! :-)
