Door Frame

Hi!

I know you're wondering what my big project for the week is... It's the door frame between the kitchen and bathroom!  (Also, my pictures are uploading again! AutoRapper was taking up too much space on my phone, so I had to delete it and now my pics are working! Yay! :-))

Now, on to my project.  Here's how the frame used to look when we were tearing down the wall.  Our back door used to go there in the existing space, but before that we had a big picture window.  We just widened it up to the same width as the old window.  This picture is from the living room, looking into the kitchen.
Here's looking from the kitchen into the living room.

And here's how it looked after we widened it.

It stayed like this for a while.....

Until, HH did some electrical work and my dad ripped some door jambs for me. It had rained the day before, so here are all the jambs drying out in the sun.

In order to make this space nice, I had to nail up the jambs:

Screw up some drywall:

And mud up some joints:

Here's the ugly threshold that has been collecting dust and who knows what else:

I filled the cracks with styrofoam and taped it up.  Then I realized I needed some shims to level up the two floors so the threshold wood wouldn't bounce. Here are some shims in place:

And here they are taped so they don't move while I'm waiting for the threshold wood to dry after painting it:

Here's a preliminary shot of the threshold. It will look so nice painted to match the dark grey in the living room!

Also, my basil died :-(
Here's how it used to look:

HH has been doing some work on DD's closet. Here's a picture from the hallway, looking into her closet and what will be a hall linen closet.

Here's a pic of the hallway from the front room.  I don't think I've shown many from this angle. Please try to ignore all the plastic!

We hope to have the door that's on the right, hung between the hall and front room soon so we can use the front door in the winter.  We'll just plastic and insulate the wall between the linen closet & front room and the wall between the master bath & front room.  This way our living spaces will be nice and cozy and we can just leave the front room to finish when we have more time and money. :-)  The door you see above on the left is our bedroom/bathroom door.  I hope it goes up soon, too!
Here's an old photo from about the same spot before we raised the floors and put up walls.  The black blanket in the back is the entry to the kitchen, which is the bright space in the above photo. And again, please try to ignore the plastic!

I've got the house to myself for the day and evening.  HH is in class till late, DS is going to his grandparents' to spend the night and DD is spending the night with a friend.  Whatever will I do to keep myself busy? ;-)  Oh, there's lots to do, I'm sure I'll think of something!

Have a great weekend! :-)
