The Doors

DS and DD are home today, so this will be a quick post!

I finally got around to painting the bathroom door this week! We re-did the bathroom in 2008. We painted the walls, installed a new toilet, new heater, new vinyl floors, made a built-in medicine cabinet, painted the vanity, installed a new tub/shower surround and I think that's it....   It was a big project done while the grandparents took DS and DD to visit their Aunt in Ontario.

The reason I never finished the door was because I was undecided about what to do. We have 2 matching doors, one for the bathroom and one for DS's room that we got from a friend of HH. The friend had an old house he converted to an office downstairs and living space upstairs and there were a couple old doors he didn't need. I thought I might strip them and leave them natural. So for years (decades?) they were all ugly and gross. Here's a picture of how the door looked from inside the bathroom.

Here's the door outside. It's what you see from the kitchen and we usually have a full-length mirror on it.
Now, here's the pretty after:
These 2 doors started a long-time love of old doors. I always like to look for them wherever I go!

To go with those two doors, I needed two matching doors for the master bedroom and DD's room. I found an ad on Usedpei.com. When I heard back from the seller, it turned out to be Nathan Wiley, who is a famous local singer! One door was in pretty bad shape but that's another post! :-)

Once I found an old door at the Grumpy Old Man's shop. It was outside and I asked if it was for sale. He had to go ask "the wife", who said she'd give it to me for $25. I told her I'd take it for $20 and it was mine!  However, I think I overpaid, as it was quite falling apart. It ended up sitting outside and I finally took it apart and put a mirror in it. Last summer, the mirror was hung on the outside breezeway wall in our screened tent.  Not sure where it will go this year...

I have a fancy entry way door for the master bath from friends of my in-laws. It was red wood, and I painted and painted it. Now, it's in between the back room and kitchen.

Here's a door from the Restore that will go between the entryway and hallway. It had a window, but HH broke it one night when I had it leaned against a wall and it fell on his head. OOPS! Now we strongly secure our doors. ;-) (This one is behind the cedar chest in the back room.)

I also have 2 matching doors from Restore that I'm going to strip and use for our entry way closet. Since I'm going to leave those doors natural, I finally decided to paint the bathroom door after all these years!  This door leads into DD's room now, but it's temporary. When we get our hallway done, this will be closed up.

DS is going to help paint his door this afternoon. (I also caulked the backroom windows so they are ready to be painted today, too!)

This post turned out to be longer than I thought! Have a good weekend! :-)
