Girl's Desk

Whew, it seems like a busy week. I had a meeting on Monday night, was gone Tuesday evening to take DS to Scouts, today is my FIL's birthday so we're going into town for dinner, and there's no school tomorrow! Plus, Monday at 1am a beeping sounded and we couldn't figure out what it was. HH took the battery out of the smoke alarm in the kitchen, but that wasn't it. I got up and turned off my phone and the computer, but that wasn't it. Finally, DS cried out "Mama!" It was his smoke alarm going off right by his head since he sleeps on the top bunk.  It kept us up almost an hour!  And to top it all off, I fixed some Iced Coffee overnight on Monday and I've been drinking it around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.  I think that's the reason I've woken up Tues and Wed night around 2am!  I'm going to switch to Decaff!

Anyway, onto the old project.  This was a desk that my FIL got for DD.  (He'd already gotten one for DS, which I'll share another day.) DD has a pretty quilt that I got for her when she was just a baby and we were living in Cary, NC.  It was from Target's Restore & Restyle collection. I really like their things. So,  I copied some of the designs to put on her desk. Here's a picture of part of the quilt I used for inspiration.

Here are the drawers after a bit of sanding. I was trying out the designs.  For the drawer on the right, I replaced the middle knob (filled in with wood filler) with two dainty knobs from my mom's trailer.

Here are a couple pictures of the top. I was trying out the placement for the heart and butterfly.

After sanding, sanding and sanding. I ended up with a purple desk.  (This was done a couple years ago. DD looks so cute and little in her painting clothes.)
Here are DD and DS priming the desk with Zinsser 123 using a foam roller and brush.
After priming, I did a light sanding and ended up putting on 4 coats of White Latex paint! Then I hand painted the design, lightly sanded it, white washed over the design and finally put a coat of wax on top of the whole desk.  Here it is today with all DD's little things on top.
The one thing that bugs me, is that I couldn't find my design placement pics when I actually painted the design. So, I reversed the two hearts on the bottom two drawers. It looks fine, but I think it would've been better with the top heart on the left and the bottom on the right. :-)
