Anyway, onto the old project. This was a desk that my FIL got for DD. (He'd already gotten one for DS, which I'll share another day.) DD has a pretty quilt that I got for her when she was just a baby and we were living in Cary, NC. It was from Target's Restore & Restyle collection. I really like their things. So, I copied some of the designs to put on her desk. Here's a picture of part of the quilt I used for inspiration.
Here are the drawers after a bit of sanding. I was trying out the designs. For the drawer on the right, I replaced the middle knob (filled in with wood filler) with two dainty knobs from my mom's trailer.
After sanding, sanding and sanding. I ended up with a purple desk. (This was done a couple years ago. DD looks so cute and little in her painting clothes.)
Here are DD and DS priming the desk with Zinsser 123 using a foam roller and brush.
After priming, I did a light sanding and ended up putting on 4 coats of White Latex paint! Then I hand painted the design, lightly sanded it, white washed over the design and finally put a coat of wax on top of the whole desk. Here it is today with all DD's little things on top.
The one thing that bugs me, is that I couldn't find my design placement pics when I actually painted the design. So, I reversed the two hearts on the bottom two drawers. It looks fine, but I think it would've been better with the top heart on the left and the bottom on the right. :-)
