Stool from Chair

We've had sunny weather the last few days, and we had a campfire in the backyard after dinner on Wednesday and Thursday.

Here are HH & DS getting the fire started in our firepit that we got last year. It's still cold- notice the jackets and hat.

DD decided to play a little badminton!

Here's HH & me (& DS).

DD finished her badminton and is trying to whittle a stick.  We have unbent coat hangers (DS is using one to cook a hotdog), but DD thought it was too short and wanted something longer!
It's fun to be able to feel "campy", then go back inside where it's nice and civilized!

So, I did a little project the last couple weeks.
I wanted a new stool.

I liked having this old ugly plastic stool in the kitchen.

It's handy for reaching things on the top shelf baskets.
But, I didn't like the look of it.

So, we had an old broken chair that looked like this.

It used to be a nice chair like this. The chairs came from Target many years ago for DS.
(We have 3 total chairs, including the broken one.  I'm pretty sure I bought 4, but one got lost somewhere in Louisiana and never made it up to Canada!)

So, I had an idea in my head to make the broken chair into a stool and it started off by cutting the legs to make the chair shorter.

Then it involved cutting the back of the chair down and making an angle cut.
I tried this with the jig saw and it wouldn't cut nicely.  Then I put a new blade on and it jumped around on me.  So, I used the hand saw!  And it's really hard to cut....

It turns out, the jigsaw blade was the wrong kind (the blades pointed down instead of up), so HH changed it again and finished sawing it.

Then I had to drill a hole in the top to counter sink the screws.

I put the pieces back together and here's the little stool.
Here it is next to the big chair.

(Since this chair was broken to begin with, the back part is still a little loose.  I need to put a couple more screws in the back and maybe some glue.)

Have a great weekend! :-)
