Yard Update

Hello again!

So, Are you wondering about the snow that's left?  Well, it's not much... Here you  can see a little patch of white in the field across the street.

Also, just above the pond by the treeline, there's a little snow.

Here's all the snow that was left in the yard on May 12.  A little patch to the left of the playhouse in front of the trees.
That was our last day of snow in the yard!

Here it is in February!

So, what have I been working on during my week off work?  Cleaning up the yard.

K and I cleaned up the junk by the shed,

(Here it is before, last year.)

and the front of the house.

(Here you can see the junk on the left side of the house.)

We loaded up the trailer and took 1/4 ton (!) of waste to the dump!

But is this all our junk?  No.....

Look what we uncovered when we took down the front fence.

Here's the fence last year.

 Here's a closer look.
Ahh!!

If you remember, this was a problem last year in July. Here it is from the back

Here it is today.
I've dug out that bush/tree by the corner of the building.  There were two big roots that were 3 inches in diameter, if not more!

And here's another close up.

So, our plan is to get rid of this junk and move the fence back to the corner of the building.

It should just be a small part of fence (maybe 5 feet) and then the gate.  You can see the gate still standing in the pic below on the right.
The gate is about 16 feet (?) wide.  It's divided into two parts and meets in the middle.

This is a long weekend.  Monday is Victoria Day here in Canada.  I have to work tomorrow, but other than that, we don't have any plans.  The weather is supposed to be sunny and mild, around 20C (70F), so we should be able to get a lot of yard work done!

Have a great weekend!  Happy Victoria Day! :-)

Foody Friday (posted on Monday- oops!)

Hi!

(I just noticed this didn't get posted on Friday.  It's Monday now!)

Another week has gone.   There's still a bit of snow hanging around in the yard. Here it is today.

This was Tuesday.

Today

Tuesday

 More snow on Tuesday.

I hung laundry out to dry for the first time this year on Tuesday.

Here's what we ate last week.
  • Fri- Hot dogs roasted on bonfire by K and kid- First one of the year!
  • Sat- Lobster and Scallops for my FIL's birthday.  (The lobster season which usually starts May 1, was delayed this year due to ice in the water. We usually have fresh lobster for my FIL's birthday, but this year we had to have frozen.  The lobster season has started today!) Plus, potato salad, green bean salad, cole slaw and rolls.  Orange Cake for dessert.
  • Sun- Chicken (thigh) soup with potatoes and carrots (by K)
  • Mon- Creamy Northern Beans (Slow Cooker: The Best Cookbook Ever, pg336 (Library Book)) Instead of small white beans, I used Northern Beans and we ate it as a soup, since it was pretty liquidy. It was good.
  • Tues- Homemade Hamburger Helper, Raw Carrots with Ranch
  • Wed- Frozen Cheese Pizza by N (I had to represent Library at a Welcome to Kindergarten program in Alberton so I missed dinner.)
  • Thurs- Chicken Fajitas with sour cream, avocado, cheese.  I had leftover Northern Beans for my protein.
I've been off work since Wednesday and will continue to be off until further notice.  There's mould in the basement of the library and it will take 3 days to clean up.  But, they're not sure when the clean up will start.... I'm really glad about this.  It's a nice time to be off since I can work on cleaning up the yard and other (boring) projects around the house.  Plus, I still have some training to do on Monday (on Social Media and the library) and I have to work in Summerside on Saturday, so I'm still getting some $!

C has a sleepover party to go to tonight.  C has a friend whose parents are working tonight and she needs a ride to the party.  So, she's coming over after school.

Have a great weekend!
Happy Mother's Day! :-)

Mother's Day Weekend

Hi!

This weekend was Mother's Day.  We enjoyed a nice, relaxing day at home.  I decided that I'd rather have Breakfast-Not-in-Bed this year instead of Breakfast-in-Bed, so that's what we did.  C was up early to decorate.  She made a lovely banner
 and a sign.
We had pancakes and bacon (none for me!) for breakfast.

I got some lovely cards, chocolates and nail polish.
C painted my nails in the afternoon.

Here's the kids and me in the morning.

Here we are all dressed up and ready to go to dinner at The Landing.

Here is K and me.

And a pic of K and his mom at dinner.

After dinner, we came back to the house to have dessert.  It was a nice day.

This week, I'm off work in Alberton, but have to go get some training this afternoon in the Tyne Valley Library.

Have a great week!

Boy's Room

Hi!

Wanna see N's new green room?

Here are some in progress pics.

N was very helpful.  I skim coated the walls to make them less textured.  Then we primed them.  I cut in the primer and N used the roller.

We did this on Friday,

Then Saturday morning we did the first coat of paint with me cutting in and N on the roller. We had to go to town for my FIL's birthday dinner that evening, so when we got home I did the final coat of paint.  N stayed in town, so he got the reveal on Sunday.  He likes it!  (Now C wants to redo her room (again!)!)

Here are some before/ after pics.

Monday Munchies

Hi!
How was your weekend?  Ours was nice, and busy.  I forgot to post Friday.  (It was a day off school for the kids- plus I was busy re-doing N's room!)

Here's what we ate last week.
  • Fri- My MIL came up and took the kids out to Kenny's dairy bar (K and I were working.)
  • Sat- Homemade Anchovy pizza using Pizza yeast.  I liked using this yeast, since we didn't have to let the dough rise.  I made 2 thin crust pizzas with the recipe on the yeast package.
  • Sun- Moroccan Salmon, Frozen Rice, Stewed Kohlrabi (World Vegetarian Cookbook)
  • Mon-Frozen Chili, Microwaved Potatoes
  • Tues- Canned Chicken Noodle Soup, Tuna Sandwiches (by K)
  • Wed- Frozen Bowtie Pasta, Cream Cheese Sauce made with Stock, Milk, Dill and Peas, Leftover Salmon- I was surprised that the kids liked this, but they did. It was really fast to fix.  I had taken the kids to the dentist and then C to dance so we got home about 5:30 and it was ready in about 15 minutes.
  • Thurs- Ceasar Salad, Perogies, Kidney Beans
Have a great week! :-)
