Halloween!

Hi!
Goodness, where did October go?  Last night was Halloween!
We only did a few decorations around the house (not like last year when we had a Halloween Party).

Notice my pumpkin above matches the pillow on the little bench below.

We put the bats up on the other side of the kitchen.

The kids carved pumpkins Sunday afternoon.

N's is on the left, C's on the right.

C also decided to paint a pumpkin.

This year, C was a cat.  We bought the ears and tail (and also the black pants and shirt which hopefully she'll wear again).  She had the fur shawl from a dress from her grandparents.
(N decided not to go trick or treating again this year.)

Two friends came over and went trick or treating with her.

Here they are racing back to the van after getting some treats..

We went from 5:20 to about 7:40.  I'd drop the girls off and they'd walk  run from house to house, if they were close, and then we'd drive off to the next place.

Here's all the stuff C got!!
We had our porch lights turned off since K was doing plumbing work in the back of N's closet and N didn't want to answer the door.  However, we still got one trick-or-treater (a friend of C's).

Have a great week! :-)

Fall Decor

Hi!

The kids came home from school early yesterday after a bomb threat was faxed into Ottawa! All the schools were searched and nothing was found....

In more fun/boring news, I got my fall stuff out for the front porch.
Since I got rid of the flower boxes, I put all my faux foliage into the basket that stays out on the porch. I put the hanging baskets back up like last year.

On the other side, is C's scarecrow from 4H last year.

Inside, I put a couple things out, including C's pumpkins from 4H.
The space is still looking bare though.  Don't you think it could use some flowers/weeds from the yard?

I haven't done anything on the chalkboard fall (or back to school) related.  When we got rid of C's Birthday Message, I just quickly put up a calendar for September.

No school tomorrow for the kiddos, so it's a long weekend!
Have a good one! :-)

Weekend Update

Hi!
How was your weekend?
We had a good one.

On Sunday, N was in a Regatta in Charlottetown where he and his teammate (sailmate?) came in 3rd!

C and I worked at the Blueberry Social at Green Park.
C served pie
and I was in charge of the jail- you can buy a ticket for $1 and then put someone in jail for 5 minutes.  I sat by the "jail" with a box to collect tickets and my phone to use as a timer.

After the social, we went with my dad and stepmom to meet my inlaws at Milligan's Wharf.
C did some handstands.

Today, C and I cut some flowers for N's room,

C's room

and the front room.

Speaking of the front room, I've moved all the stuff into the closet.

Most of this stuff came from the hallway closet,
which I'm now working on....

Have a great week! :-)

Front Room Closet

Hello!

I've been getting some work done on the front room closet.

Here's where we left off in May.

I put up the 1x3s between the drywall pieces.
My dad helped with the mouldings.

After mudding and sanding, I primed and painted.

I used leftover grey front room paint for the walls and leftover blue master
bedroom paint for the ceiling.

After a second coat of paint (where I accidentally used blue paint for the side wall!),
I started the floor.

I referred to my previous post about finishing the front room floors, so I'd know what to do.
Here's is the basecoat of blue (diluted with 10% water).

While I had the blue paint out, I primed the hidden hallway closet floor.
I put another coat of blue in the closet the next afternoon. I waited a few days before moving the tote and vacuum back in.

I did a coat of grey in the front room closet the after 24 hours and then the dark grey diamond stencil after another 24 hours.
Somehow things got a little wonky, since I had to start at the back and work my way toward the previously painted floor.

After another 24 hours, I did the off white stencil and a bit of filling in with the light grey and dark grey paints.

Here's the finished floor.  I think it looks nice.

When C came home from camp I told her there was wet paint in the closet and she didn't even realize it was on the floor because it just looks like it's always been there (which is good!).

Now I have to finish up the baseboards, make some shelves and hang a rod....

Have a great weekend! :-)

Front Room Benches

Hi!

As I was cleaning out the hallway (soon-to-be(?)) laundry closet (I got rid of one tote of stuff!!), I found the pleather from our old headboard.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but I found the perfect spot!

Of course, the light colored fabric was getting dirty, so one day I had the good idea to cut up a shirt I'd bought (second hand- so it didn't cost very much!) and drape that over the benches.

Then, when I found the pleather, I had the even better idea to cover them with that!

Now, I've got to get out the staple gun!

Have a great day! :-)

Front Room Closet/ Back Side Door

Hi!
I can't believe it's Wednesday, already!

We had a belated Mother's Day Lunch on Sunday since my MIL was out of town on May 8.  We picked up some Lobsters for the grown ups and chicken strips for the kids, plus fries and rolls.  My MIL made potato salad and cole slaw and dessert- chocolate cake and lemon squares.  It was nice.

I've made some progress on the front room closet.

It was a mess.

I had already cut two 3/8" plywood pieces for the back.  They were cut for width, but I had to cut one for height.

I had to finish taping up the plastic.

And figure out that wall on the left.

This is it with the plywood installed on the back wall.

Here you can see the angled part of the wall that will be between the master bathroom and the closet. It's on the left.

I took a break, then installed the drywall on the right.

And I got the last piece of plywood up on the angled part of the ceiling/wall.
Of course there are still a lot of things to do... But it's progress!

I finally put up the trim around the back side door.
Here's a picture of the door from Halloween, 2015.  That red tuck tape had been like that for years!!!

The door looks much better now!
So far it's been 3 days and no one has even noticed!
I did a bit of the caulking, but ran out of the tube I was using so I still need to finish that up and then paint!

Have a great day!
:-)
