Marvelous Monday

Hi!

We made it through the weekend!  Today we are expecting freezing rain and then rain!  Aaahh, the weather!  The one good thing about frigid cold temps is that when it "warms" up to Neg 10C, it feels warm and such a relief!

I went out on Saturday to get some pics and even though I was wearing my normal gloves (see one in the photo below!) my hands were freezing!

Here's another picture of the roof.

HH went out to remove some snow.  That wall on the right is 7 feet tall and that's the top of it!

HH also went out and used the snow thrower remove the snow from the back breezeway door.  Now we can go the back yard directly instead of walking around from the front.

Here are HH and DS hanging out in the snow!

DS up on the breezeway roof.  Eventually both kids used that as a launching spot for sledding!

Yesterday the kids went out and made a snow cake with some food colouring.

With the snow day Friday, I got a little project done. I lined the back of the wardrobe pantry with striped wallpaper I picked up at the Salvation Army a while back. I just taped it up.

Then, I decided to line the shelves.

And here it is all finished.

Here's how it looked before.

We watched Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi this weekend!  I was kinda surprised how much the kids enjoyed it.  And me, too. I'd seen them before, but can't imagine I saw the first one when I was only 6 in 1977.  I must've seen it later?  Anyway, I didn't remember the whole story so it was fun to see again.  And it was really good quality for such an old movie, it didn't feel "old".  I think they maybe did some work when it was digitized or something.  DS especially liked it and thought "Return of the Jedi" was "awesome!".

The kids had their Sunday School Christmas performance at church yesterday. It had been cancelled from Dec 22.  Both kids did a great job.  This year was DD's first year to have a speaking part.  Before, she had always been too shy!

Have a great week! :-)

Blizzard Friday

Hi!

We are having  another snow day yet again!  It's actually a blizzard!

Although the view from the window isn't as snowy as it can be, it's still blowing around a lot.  The good thing is that the temps are warming up to Neg 13C (windchill Neg 24C) (9F/windchill Neg11F).

Schools are closed for the day and HH's work is also closed.  We'll be hanging around inside, using our good dishes (a new tradition I started this winter to use the "good dishes" on storm days!) and we may venture outside later!

Have a good weekend! :-)

Happy New Year! (Tasty Thursday)

Hi!

Christmas Break is over (with a slight delay as school was delayed an hour because of extreme cold- Negative 26C with windchill of Neg 37 (Neg 15F/Neg35)!!) BRRR!!  So, I've got a (almost) full day to myself!

We had a nice vacation. Here is Christmas morning at the in-laws.

Checking out the loot!

I've never seen this before, but our Christmas tree started to grow!  See the light green shoots at the end of the branches?  I kinda felt bad for the tree since it thought it was spring, but really we were just gonna throw it out to die. :-(

Building snow forts for a snowball fight.  DD was referree and declared DS the winner after he knocked down my wall.  But he built his wall double thick and mine was only a single brick thick so it really wasn't all that fair! ;-)

Here yet again is the snow bank in the back.  It's hard to imagine the scale of it, but you can see DS and our cat.  It is huge!!

I'm looking forward to getting back on schedule.  I'm going to go ahead and post this week's meals for posterity.
  • Mon- White Beans with Garlic, Krispy Kale, Stirfried Kale, Quinoa
  • Tues- New Year's Eve Dinner at In-laws- Duck, Chicken Fingers, Potatoes, Cheesy Cabbage, Corn, Carrots, Fries- Quite the spread!

TGIF & Merry Christmas!

Hi!

The kids had their Christmas Concert yesterday. I took the new camera and all the pics are blurry.  Evidently I didn't hold the camera still enough as it was dark in the room and light on stage. Here's blurry DS in the middle with the Santa Hat.

And blurry DD wearing her pink dress with her recorder.

No new projects this week. :-(  With all the snow days and getting ready for Xmas, I've just been lazy.  And I'm guessing it'll be pretty slow throughout the holidays.

So, I'll say Merry Christmas & Happy New Year now and will write more after the school vacation!

The Owlies

Another snow day yesterday!  Here's a pic of the big drift behind the house on the breezeway this morning! There was an hour delay for school today, but the sky is now clear and sunny.

Here are some pics yesterday in the storm.

And remember, it used to look like this!

More snowy pics!  And we're supposed to get more snow and ice on Sunday!

So, last year I started a tradition to make made home-made presents for my family.  Here's what I made for DD.

The Owlies!

I was inspired by this at Martha Stewart.  I started with an old sweater of mine.  Here it is after I cut it up!

I made the little owls, took a picture, made a label, printed it out and Mod-Podged it on a box I'd painted gold!

Here are the Owlies, snuggled in!

Peek-a-boo!!
