Lilacs

Hi!
How was your weekend?  Ours was good.  I had to work on Saturday in Summerside.  Yesterday, C had two 4H Events- one in the afternoon at the PEI Potato Museum to get her Agriculture Awareness project done and one in the evening to make a basket.
Isn't it nice?

The lilac tree that my mother planted when N was born in 2003 is in bloom.

The blooms aren't fully done blooming, but I couldn't resist cutting some and bringing it inside!

I put some in each bedroom- in N's room,

C's room,

K's side of the bed,

my side of the bed,

and the front room.
See the pretty purple origami flower N made? :-)

Later, K did some trimming, so I had some for the back room!  It smells so good!

Have a great day and a wonderful week! :-)

Side Garden/ Old Style

Hi!

How's your day?  The week has just flown by!

A couple weekends ago, I decided to use up some paint and get the plywood painted behind the front side garden.
I felt this needed to be done asap, since it's harder to paint when the plants get bigger!

It just looks normal now, but here it is before!

When I was working in Kensington Library, I picked up some old magazines.  This one is from June, 1993- a couple years before we started building our "cottage".
Notice the green paint?

Well, in the back breezeway, we have one window that never got re-painted white, like the rest.  It is very similar to the picture!
(We also had blue trim at one point, not sure if it was before the green or after...)

K was working in the van and Lilly found a nice spot in the front window.
I think she looks sad because C had gone to a slumber party!

Have a great day! :-)

June!

Hi!

It's June already!  Only 17 more days left of school!  (It's still strange to me that school goes so late here- I'm used to being done in May!  But we don't have to go back til after Labor Day, so that's nice!)

We had a good weekend.  The kids spent Friday night with their grandparents.  Then Saturday, N went to a friend's house for the evening and C invited a friend over on Sunday.

Nothing much else to report....
It's raining today....
The grass is growing...
Have a great week! :-)

Memorial Day

Hi!
Happy (?) Memorial Day, down in the States!

It's a regular day for us.
We had a nice weekend.  C was busy with her gymnastics show and a birthday party sleepover.
Here's C (at the end of the line) getting ready to do her routine.

K and N got out for their first sail of the year yesterday (even though it was pretty cold!).  They went in the Summerside Harbour and then stayed in town for dinner with K's parents at the Yacht Club.  After that, it was this month's Astronomy Club.

It's raining today, so everybody wanted to sleep in!

Have a great week! :-)

Front Garden/Shed

Hello!
How's your day?  It's raining here now and cloudy -great for the plants!

Yesterday, I got some mulching done in the courtyard.
I also got the front garden mulched.

This is the front in June, 2014

Close-up mulch pics.

I put mulch by the shed where the transplanted ferns are growing, too!
I didn't mean to dump a whole bag here, but oh well!
It needs a little something in the back- more concrete bag stones?  Not sure....
(Notice the black trash can? It's there because we missed our trash pick up last week and I didn't feel like moving the whole full can back to the courtyard. When I called to find out why they didn't pick up our bin, I discovered we'd been on the cottage plan and our collection wasn't supposed to start until May 28! I guess there was a new driver or something because they usually pick it up!  Anyway, we got it all straightened out (and now owe another $100/year for the service) and it'll get picked up tomorrow.)

Have a fantastic day! :-)

Courtyard

Hello!

I moved some plants around in the courtyard and wanted to document it here, so I can remember what I did.

I took a hosta from under the Virginia Creeper,

and moved it to both side of the corner of the storage room.

I took the hosta in front of the hose and split it (this is the half that stayed).

I moved the other half to the corner of the patio stone.

I divided two lilies (?) in the front of the picture, behind the log (again, these are the halves that stayed).

Then I had to center the hosta that's between the front lillies.

I moved both halves of lilies to the left of the patio stone.

Then, a couple days later, I moved half of the new lilies, like so.
so they're on both sides of the patio stone.

Yesterday, I bought 4 bags of mulch (on sale for $2.99/ 40% off).
Looks much better with mulch, doesn't it?

Here's a bigger view.

I ran out of mulch, so it didn't go all the way back to that trellis. Soon, it will be all filled in with hostas, though!
That pile of junk will soon be gone! (Just need to load up the trailer and take a trip to the Waste Watch Facility.)

I also added mulch to the courtyard.

Bigger view.
Again, where there's no mulch will soon be filled in with hostas.

We've still got a few lot of things to clean up around the courtyard, but it's looking better!

Have a great day! :-)

Front Porch/ Front Garden

Hi!
How was your weekend? Ours is still going, as today is Victoria Day- a day off for everybody! I had to work in Kensington on Saturday, so it feels like Sunday today.

The trees are starting to green up and the grass is growing.
Can you see the little green leaves on the birch trees?

The Lilac bush is growing

and so is the Juniper!
I've put away all the winter coats, but still haven't gotten the summer clothes out yet!
The black flies are here now, so I'm glad I got some plant dividing done!

I did some spray painting last week.
See that white metal basket thing on the table?

That's what I painted.

I'd planned on painting it white again, but I got out my white spray paint a couple days ago and couldn't find it when I went looking!
So, I did it hammered silver.

I'd noticed that the grey porch light (pay no attention to the unfinished porch ceiling) tied in to the grey ribbon on the flower.

So I thought the hammered silver would tie in as well.
However, now I think the table needs to be white!
Oh, the projects are neverending! :-)

I also got the front flower boxes filled with fake flowers.

I don't mind the fake foliage there too much, since I don't have to keep it watered!

The garden below looks so sad!

Instead, I expanded the front garden on the left.
Here's the garden last June, 2015.

Now, it's expanded in the front and the left side.

I divided these plants on the right side to put there!
(This pic was taken last year.)

Here's the right side now, after dividing the plants.

And here's the left side.
That big plant in the middle is growing so well on this side, which gets light in the morning.
I may have to divide it and move some over to the right side, where it's not doing so well.
I will get some mulch this week.  I only need to mulch this new part and a bit over by the courtyard.

Have a fantastic day! :-)
