Mornin!

We had a nice weekend.  We had an early morning Saturday with HH & I going to the PEI Home and School Federation Annual General Meeting in Charlottetown.  It started at 8:45 am, so we had to get up early at 7:00 to leave here around 7:20.  We dropped the kids off at their grandparents' and on the way we discovered that the long-awaited opening of the new Giant Tiger store was happening.

And there were lotsa people!

The PEIHSF AGM was good and productive. They passed all their resolutions- a few with some friendly amendments.  The meeting also included a lunch (BBQ chicken).  

After that, HH dropped me off at Value Village.  He does not like to shop, so he went over to Seoul Korea across the street to get us dinner!

I found some pretty cloth napkins.  

I imagine they were in some old lady's collection for years and never used.  They are almost too pretty to use, but I'm going to!  They came in 2 bundles of 6, costing $3 each. Sometimes I think VV's prices are a bit high, but they do support the Canadian Diabetes Association so at least that's something good!

We held off on giving DD her antibiotics and she seems to be better now.  

The snow is melting.

I went for a walk on Friday, and could've gone today, but it's a bit rainy.  I guess I'll have to start tomorrow!

My phone storage space is running low, therefore my pictures don't upload. I'm trying to transfer my pics to our long-term storage, but it's slow.  I thought I was supposed to do it from the SD storage, but there seem to be no pics there, so I'm doing it from the USB storage. We'll see how this goes...

TGIF

Hi again!

Goodness, what a "busy" week.  DD continued to run a fever and finally I took her in to the walk-in clinic in Summerside yesterday.  Our family doctor passed away in Feb, and they have yet to replace her here in the Valley.  Therefore, the doctor who is here is very busy and isn't taking appointments til the end of the month!  So, we had to go and wait about 2 hours to see the doctor, as they don't take apppintments at the clinic. DD and I took a drawing pad and the card game UNO to keep us busy.  We actually sat just outside the office at a table (the office is upstairs in a grocery store and the employees or whoever can eat up there) and we played cards.  The time passed by quickly.  The doctor diagnosed her with a sore throat and gave some antibiotics.  However, since her fever seems to be close to normal, I'm holding off on giving her the medicine.  She finally went back to school today.  Yesterday, DS brought her school work home and she was able to do all the work in about 25 minutes!

The Heritage Fair at the school was yesterday.  They had 47 really nice exhibits for grades 5 and 6.  I got to see them after getting back from the doctor's.  I also got to see the award presentation, but DS and his partner didn't place. It seems I was at the school often this week, with driving DS to school with his project, DS missing the bus, and having to take him early yesterday to set up the project.  I sent a note today to send DD home on the bus this afternoon and not let her go to the After School Program she usually attends. This saves me one last trip this week! (Plus I don't think DD should be running around so much after being sick

 :-))

I got a little project done this week.  We had an old fitted flannel sheet that got ripped when it was stored inside the pull-out couch bed.  I patched it with a pink heart! And then it got worn and ripped again.  I cut it into pieces.

And I used them to make black-out liners for our bedroom windows.   

Each window has two layers which really work to block out most light, but when the sun comes up you can still tell it's morning.

Before, I had pillow cases pinned to the curtains.  They didn't quite cover the windows and I had sunlight streaming right into my eyes in the morning!

If you can't tell, I still need to actually sew them together.  As I'm not sure my sewing machine is working, I just pinned the liners in place and put them up.  In fact, the whole curtain set needs to be sewn and hemmed.  Not sure when I'll ever get to that!

Tasty Tuesday

Hi!

We had a nice weekend.  DS got his Heritage Fair project on Anne of Green Gables finished with his partner.  They waited a bit til the last minute, but got it done to take to school yesterday!

DD is sick.  She got a fever and sore throat on Sunday.  She stayed home from school yesterday and last night she threw up so she's home again today.  We had a Home and School meeting last night and evidently there's a bug going around.  Two kids in DS's class threw up at school yesterday and went home!  Hopefully, this will go by quickly and no one else in the family will get it.

I got a call from the school bus driver this morning. His bus broke down and the bus will be 20-30 minutes late.  DS is waiting outside now.  So, far it's about 35 min behind schedule. Luckily, it's a nice mild morning, so I don't mind DS waiting. This afternoon and evening, we have a high wind/ rain warning!

(Update:  DS missed the bus!! After  about 35 minutes of waiting (after going out 20 min. late), I finally called the school and the bus had already arrived!  I had to drive him again!)

• Sat-  Kids Dinner at Inlaws (?), HH & I Bibimbap from Seoul Korea
• Sun- HH Soup Penne Pasta with Alfredo Sauce

Easter Decorations

Hi!

You've already seen the Easter Banner I made for the front porch.

Now, here are the decorations I've put around the house.

When you walk in, there's a moss Easter Bunny holding a sparkly egg candle on the entry table.

In the kitchen, I've put the bunny that used to go outside, on the shelf above the toaster oven along with a cookie jar filled with pink and yellow eggs and a basket with a moss ball in it.  Also, there are 2 yellow straw chicks on the wardrobe pantry. 

Update-Since I've decorated a couple weeks ago, I changed things up a bit during the storm days.  I am trying to clear out the storage room with my decorating stuff. Here's how the pantry and shelves look now!

On the shelves to the left of the pond window I've got 2 yellow teacups with eggs in them and one pink egg by our family pics.

Update: I got rid of the wine holder since we hardly keep wine there at all.  That's an old bottle of sherry that I'm going to throw out as soon as I can get it open to pour it out.  Here's the new decor.  I put out "Happy Easter" Scrabble pieces from the game I got at the Salvation Army before Christmas for only $2! It's in front of the family pics. Oh, and I see the stainless steel coffee press is missing from behind the yellow cups.  Our drip coffee maker broke a week or so ago, so we've been using the press more often. I also put a marble cheese tray (?) behind the family pics.  It was a wedding present. I've never used it and am not sure what to do with it.  I set it out so I can see if I get inspired.

  

On the right hand shelves there's a pink & cream bunny sitting on a pink pedastal.

 In the tv room, can you see the 3 little candle eggs in front of the tv behind all the legos?  And on the right under the Micky Mouse clock (I must re-do that someday or get another) are 2 fuzzy chicks, one yellow in a bird's nest and one white.

 Here's a rubber bunny on the lamp, 3 blown out Easter Eggs in the palm tree plant in the back on the left and a little nest with tiny chicks in the money plant on the right.

 The secretary has a purple bunny hanging from the key hole.  I wish I had the key for it, but I don't so I just stuck a bent paper clip in there to hold the bunny up.

  

We've got a few Easter books and some wind-up Easter Eggs on the coffee table.

And finally, in the bathroom I've hung 3 more blown out Easter eggs on the window.

I've had all these decoarations for a while. It was fun to get them out and put them up! :-)

Last Post Blizzard Post (?)

Ok, we had another storm this weekend!  On Sunday it started snowing around 10:00am.  I was able to get to Summerside to pick up the kids from their grandparents' and take them to swimming.  Then we hurried home before the freezing rain which began that afternoon.  It continued thru the night.  We lost power Monday at 5:00am. There was no school for the kids. HH had to go to town for work for a few hours before it was cancelled.  He picked up some pizza for lunch!  We stayed warm in our coats, 

 playing Scrabble, Mexican Train and the computer.

 Finally, HH had to get the kerosene heater started. It heats the back room and kitchen nicely.

Ice on the Virginia Creeper.

A birch tree had fallen over the line to our house.  It broke our neutral wire, so when our fridge cut in, our lights dimmed.  The Electric Company fixed it last night.

The sun kinda came out in the evening. Everything looked so pretty covered in ice and snow.

  

When you went outside, you could hear all the cracking and creaking of the ice!

The kids went back to school yesterday and I was finally able to go shopping.  There was supposed to be a Professional Development day for teaches on Friday with no school for kids, but they cancelled it.  This was the worst winter for snow in 42 years!  (We'd have to get another 100 cm to beat that year!)  It's definitely been wild!  Hopefully this is the end of it! :-)

Tasty Thursday

Hi!

I'm a bit late with the Tasty Tuesday.  We had another storm this week (which I'll post about later :-)) 

Here's what we're eating this week.

• Mon- Mac & Cheese (no power- cooked on kerosene heater!)
• Tues- Thai Curry Cod (for grown-ups) Plain Cod (for kids), Rice, Carrots
• Wed-  Exotic Ginger Cumin Chickpeas (from the library book Great Food Fast- see recipe below)
• Thurs-Crunchy Baked Chicken Breast (again from GFF- based on fish burger recipe below, but I used Honey-Dijon Kettle chips, bread crumbs and crackers for coating!)
• Fri- Pizza
• Sat- Leftovers
• Sun- HH's Soup- Potato Chowder with celery and corn

I used chickpeas instead of chicken!
